Petromotion On The Snow

Jodie Looks At 3 Of The Best

SKI FRANCE
Excellent snow records and plenty of sunshine make this the most popular area to ski in the world, but we think that just because it's closer than America.

The best resorts this year have been the high ones like Val Thorens and Les Menuires both in the giant 3 Valleys ski domain. Cheap packages and fairly cheap lift prices make France the obvious choice for any novices. All resorts are boarder friendly and most also have surf parks to complement this. Many tour operators offer french resorts. Snow wise the Alps had a good xmas and new year, but things could be heading downhill (no pun intended!) as the unseasonably high temperatures experienced in England have also affected the Alps, making lower ski runs rather slushy and slow. Petromotion says if enjoyment far outweighs cost, go to Canada!

SKI USA
A long way for some, not too far for others, the USA offers skiing right across the country. From Vermont in the East to Colorado in the middle to California in the West, all these states offer top skiing conditions. Many resorts have been known to have anti-boarder policies, as skiers have persuaded the powers that be that boarders are a hazard! Luckily things are lightening up as time goes on. Phew! The best area has to be California with their huge "Dumps" of snow (up to 42ft a year!) Resorts in this area include Mamouth Mountain, Squaw Valley and Heavenly.

The snow is very light and dry, and after a heavy snowfall it's like nothing on this planet. Colorado also offers similar conditions, but is generally much more expensive than California as it's home to the likes of Aspen and Vail. Worth the visit, but be prepared fork out loads on the lift pass. Petromotion says go to California if you have to go to the states, otherwise go to Canada.

SKI CANADA
This country and it's resorts are almost sex itself, it's cheap, it's wild (caribou run wild down the streets!) and the ski areas are the best with some of the most challenging runs on the planet...We're not talking black runs...We're not talking black diamond runs...We're talking black double diamonds! Yes, the only thing in England close to it throwing yourself off the top of the Canary Wharf tower! The resorts worth seeing are Banff (9hr flight to Calagary from Heathrow) for Mount Norquay, Sunshine and Lake Louise.

Whistler/Blackcombe RSN (r) Lake Lousie Today
And also Whistler (10hr Flight to Vancouver from Heathrow) for the joint ski areas Whistler and Blackcombe Mountains. If you think you can handle the flight go there a.s.a.p...we guarentee you won't regret it!
